NOTIFICATION
Delhi, the 8th January, 2026
F. No. 11/12/Admin/LJ&LA/16/320.—In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to article 309 of
the Constitution read with Government of India, Ministry of Home Affair’s Notification GSR 840 dated 13th July, 1959
and in supersession of this Government’s Notification number No. F.2(48)/1/70-S.II. dated 15th May, 1976, except as
respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Lt. Governor of the National Capital Territory
of Delhi, after prior consultation with the Union Public Service Commission, is pleased to make the following rules
regulating the method of recruitment to the post of “ASSISTANT LEGAL ADVISOR” in the Law, Justice and
Legislative Affairs Department, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, namely:—
1. Short title and commencement – (i) These rules may be called “Assistant Legal Advisor” Recruitment Rules,
2026.
(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Delhi Gazette.
2. Number of Posts, classification and Level in the Pay Matrix – The number of post, its classification and
Level in the Pay Matrix shall be specified in columns (2) to (4) of the Schedule attached with these rules.
3. Method of recruitment, age limit and other qualification, etc.. – The method of recruitment to the said post,
age limit, qualification and other matter relating thereto shall be as specified in columns (5) to (13) of the said
Schedule.
4. Disqualifications – No person, -
(a) Who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or
(b) Who having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person;
shall be eligible for appointment to the said post;

Provided that the Government may, if satisfied, that such marriage is permissible under the personnel law
applicable to such person and the other party to the marriage and that there are other ground for doing so,
exempt any person from the operation of this regulation.
5. Power to relax – Where the Government is of the opinion that if necessary or expedient so to do, it may, by
order, and for reasons to be recorded in writing, may relax any of the provisions of this rule with respect of any
class or category of persons.
6. Saving – Nothing in these rules shall affect reservations, relaxation of age limit and other concession required
to be provided for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Ex-servicemen or any
other special category of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the Government from time to time in
this regard.

Experience:Four years experience as Legal Practitioner or Four year experience in handling legal work in a Government Department/PSU. Desirable: Good knowledge of Hindi NOTE: Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the U.P.S.C., for reasons to be recorded in writing, in the case of candidates otherwise well qualified. The qualification(s) regarding experience is/are relaxable at the discretion of the U.P.S.C., for reasons to be recorded in writing in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes if at any stage of selection the U.P.S.C., is of the opinion that sufficient number of candidates from these communities possessing the requisite experience are not likely to be available to fill up the vacancies reserved for them. |

Note 2: The departmental Officers in the feeder category who are in the direct line of promotion shall not be eligible for appointment on deputation. Similarly, the deputationists shall not be eligible for consideration for appointment on promotion. Note 3: The period of deputation including short-term contract (ISTC) in another ex-cadre post held immediately preceding this appointment in the same or some other Organization/Department of the Central Government shall ordinarily not exceed three years. Note 4: The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation (ISTC) shall be not exceeding 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications) Note 5: The Central or State or UT Government officials/officers shall only be considered for Absorption. |
