The Election Commission of India, in pursuance of clause (c) of Section 60 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, specifies that electors above the age of 85 years and persons with benchmark disability (as marked/flagged in the electoral rolls database of the State) who request voting by postal ballot paper and whose request is verified by the concerned Returning Officer, will constitute a class of persons eligible to vote by postal ballot. This provision applies to the current bye-elections for the 35-Madurantakam(SC) and 101-Dharapuram(SC) Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu, the 09-Thattanchavady Assembly Constituency in Puducherry, the 70-Rejinagar and 210-Nandigram Assembly Constituencies in West Bengal, and the 09-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency in Assam. These bye-elections are to be notified on 09.09.2026, under Section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as per the provisions in Part-IIIA of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961. The notification is O.N. 35(E) dated New Delhi, the 8th September, 2026, and is issued by order of S.B.JOSHI, Principal Secretary, with F. No. 52/2026/SDR/Vol.IV.
